JJ's methods got Hearts back on track claims Driver

ANDREW DRIVER today claimed Hearts have finally rediscovered their shooting boots – and paid tribute to Jim Jefferies' training methods for getting them back on track.

Driver netted the opener in Saturday's 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Hibs at Tynecastle, with Gary Glen adding their second less than three minutes later.

Although Derek Riordan later pulled one back for the Easter Road outfit, Hearts had enough chances in that first half to win a couple of games and the winger was not only delighted to get the win, but also to see his side carving out so many opportunities.

He said: "This is a team that, over the last couple of years, has been criticised for not creating chances but on Saturday I think we showed that with the right training, which we have been getting, that we can go out and score goals.

"I thought that David Obua up front was different class and Gaz (Gary Glen] was dangerous every time he got in the box. That's all just through the management bringing their game on and telling them to get into the box at every opportunity.

"I think that we looked dangerous from set pieces as well and that is night and day from the lack of opportunities that we used to make."

Driver was making his first appearance in over a month following a problem with tendinitis of the knee, while Ian Black and Ruben Palazuelos both had to overcome late fitness tests to make the starting line-up. He continued: "Me, Blacky and Ruben, none of us expected to play really but we just got on with it and I think it proved that the manager was right with the team that he selected.

"I think that the adrenalin pulled us through and we can enjoy a bit of success now.

"I think when people don't know if they're playing or not until quite late on then it means that even the subs prepare really well for games.

"In the week leading up to it there's a chance that if you know you are going to be on the bench then you might take your foot off the pedal a wee bit, but no-one could do that on Saturday.

"With Blacky and Kucharski both having to come off fairly early in the game, we really needed the boys who came on to be really up for it and I think that they were.

"The manager chose the right team to go out there and win the game."
