Jim Goldie eyes Cesarewitch tilt

Jim Goldie is hoping for a bit of luck when he has two rolls of the dice in the totesport.com Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Renfrewshire trainer runs the consistent mare La Vecchia Scuola, for whom he has booked the in-form William Buick, and lightweight Dazzling Light, who will be partnered by 7lb claimer Harry Bentley.

"La Vecchia Scuola is high enough in the handicap, but she deserves to be in there and she's in good form." said Goldie. "She's been over the trip over hurdles, anyway, as she won over two and a half miles, so hopefully she'll get it OK.

"William Buick is obviously a jockey in good form and I think they'll go well."

"Dazzling Light's brother (Balkan Knight) is a good stayer and she's been running well of late and has been placed twice at York recently. She's in good form, the ground should be OK for her, but the distance is an unknown. If she stays, she'll be a player. She's at the right end of the handicap.

Meanwhile, high-profile Godolphin recruit Long Lashes finally gained her first victory of the season on a wintry afternoon at Leicester yesterday.

Bought with a Classic campaign in mind after winning her first start at two for Jessica Harrington, the powerful filly's career tapered away after taking the Sweet Solera Stakes on her debut for Saeed Bin Suroor and she did not even return to competitive action in 2010 until Glorious Goodwood. But Long Lashes brushed Seradim and Super Sleuth aside under a hands-and-heels ride from Frankie Dettori.
