Jim Ballantyne poised for re-election at SFL agm

JIM Ballantyne will be re-elected president of the Scottish Football League today at the organisation's annual general meeting at Hampden.

The Airdrie United chairman became president in November last year following the resignation of Brown McMaster. Ballantyne is standing unopposed, as is vice-president Ewen Cameron, of Alloa Athletic.

A proposal that the president's term of office be changed from one to two years will be debated at the agm.

Member clubs will also vote in the new league management committee, of which McMaster and Cameron will be members. They will be joined by Jim Leishman, Dunfermline Athletic's director of football, who will represent the First Division and is standing unopposed. Queen's Park's Malcolm Mackay will continue as the Third Division representative, while a vote will be required to decide the Second Division rep, with Lachlan Cameron (Ayr United), Gordon Mc- Dougall (Livingston) and Gilbert Lawrie (Dumbarton) standing.

The draw for the first round of next season's Challenge Cup will take place after the agm. In the evening, league sponsor Irn-Bru will host the annual SFL player of the year awards dinner at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, the draw for the first round of the 2010-11 Co-operative Insurance Cup will be made by Scotland manager Craig Levein tomorrow at Livingston.
