Jerssica Ennis sure Lolo Jones will be out for revenge in Kelvin Hall rematch

World heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis fully expects American Lolo Jones to be on a revenge mission when they go head-to-head in the Aviva International Match in Glasgow.

Ennis set a new British record of 7.97 seconds when she beat defending world indoor champion Jones in the women's 60 metres hurdles at the Kelvin Hall last January.

The Sheffield-based athlete, who celebrated her 25th birthday yesterday, will also be competing in the women's long jump but knows the rematch with Jones tomorrow will be highly anticipated by the crowd.

Ennis said: "I'm sure she will be (looking for revenge]. It will be good, I think it's good to have that competition. It was a nice surprise to win last year and I'm sure she will want to win this year. She might be a bit tired after her journey but I'm sure she'll be prepared and I'm looking forward to it."

Today's event sees Ennis make her first international appearance of 2011 and her first high-profile outing since her heptathlon victory at the European Championships in Barcelona in August.

"It's always nice to start the season up here," she said. "I've had some really good competitions in the last couple of years here.

"It's always good to come back and it's always a good competition so I'm looking forward to it. I feel in good shape and I feel ready to compete well so I'm hoping I can put down a good performance and keep it rolling into the rest of the indoor season."

Ennis will again be captain of the Aviva GB&NI team. She said: "I always feel weird being captain but it is nice and it's an honour. We did so well last year winning and it was great to see everyone perform so well."

While determined to focus on the year ahead, Ennis admits thoughts of the London 2012 Olympics are now inevitable. She said: "I've definitely started thinking about it but I'm trying to keep my focus on this year first. It is next year so it's hard not to think about it but I don't think about it too much when I'm training, I don't want to get too caught up in it yet.

"That all starts at the end of this year. I just want to get this year done and have a great year and then build on it next year and get ready."

West Ham and Tottenham are both vying to take over the Olympic Stadium, with the latter's bid involving plans to demolish the stadium after the Games and build a new 60,000-seat football ground without a running track.

Ennis said: "We want to create a legacy after 2012 and so much has been put into it that it would be a shame to lose it. I'd like to see it stay, to be honest, like most of the other athletes.Memories will be created there during 2012 so it would be a shame to lose it."

Meanwhile, Scottish Commonwealth Games medallists Lee McConnell and Chris Baillie, will captain the strongest ever Glasgow Cobras team in the McCain City Challenge in Sheffield on Sunday, 6 February.

McConnell, who won the 400m at the Aviva European Trials and UK Championships and picked up a bronze in the 4x400m relay at the European Championships in 2010, will return to the track for the first time since the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Eilish McColgan will also be in the strong women's squad in the 1500m, fresh from running an indoor personal best at the recent Scottish Athletics Open in Glasgow. Baillie finished eighth in the Commonwealth Games and will look to start his indoor season with a bang in the first of two matches which will see Glasgow take on seven other city teams. He will be joined in the men's squad by Craig Fleming and David Martin who between them recorded the fastest times over 60m, 200m and 400m at the Scottish Athletics Open.

Team manager Brian Donaldson said: "Glasgow Cobras are looking stronger in 2011 than they did in 2010. The female squad is one of the best we have ever taken to the McCain City Challenge and I'm quietly confident we can improve on last year and cause an upset. With two Commonwealth Games medallists, Lee McConnell and Chris Baillie, captaining the Cobras, there is a great mix of experience and talent in the team."
