Jeff reveals Hearts star Driver subbed due to cramp

INJURY concerns surrounding Hearts winger Andy Driver were allayed today as manager Jim Jefferies revealed he was substituted with cramp against St Mirren on Saturday and not because of further pain from tendonitis in his knee.

The Englishman was withdrawn near the end of the 1-1 draw in Paisley after pulling up while chasing the ball on the right flank. Initial fears were that the injury could be serious, particularly in light of Driver's recent prolonged absence with knee trouble. However, Jefferies expects the 22-year-old to be fit for this weekend's top-six decider against Kilmarnock at Tynecastle.

"Driver just had cramp, the knee is okay," said the manager. "He had ice on it as a precaution but he's fine. I expect him to be okay for this weekend

Ian Black suffered another head injury after colliding with St Mirren's Stephen Thomson and required four stitches. He had been a pre-match doubt due to a non-football related back injury sustained on Friday when he had to swerve his car unexpectedly.

"Black had four stitches, he was doubtful before the game because he had to take an injection in his back," said Jefferies. "Larry Kingston had a virus and it was felt that he didn't recover in time to play. He was desperate to play and he was disappointed but Saturday was a game where you couldn't go and try things with someone who was under the weather. Larry was in the team and I had to take him out of the team on the advice that we couldn't take a chance.

"The supporters got behind us in the second half on Saturday and we had a few near things around about their goal. St Mirren scored a wonder strike in the first half but we came out and did something about it in the second half and that was the pleasing thing."
