Jamieson rallies and takes silver

SCOTLAND’S Michael Jamieson produced a stunning swim in Istanbul last night to add a 200 metres breaststroke World Short Course Championship silver medal to the one he won at the Olympics in the summer.

Jamieson had only scraped into the final after the morning heats, and was handed an outside lane. But he battled gamely to finish second to the same swimmer who pipped him in London – Daniel Gyurta of Hungary, who set a competition record in two minutes and 1.35 seconds.

Jamieson took silver in a time of 2:03.00, a new British record, with Viatcheslav Sinkevichof of Russia third in 2:03.08. Akihiro Yamaguchi of Japan, the world record holder, finished fourth.

“It just goes to show the power of psychology,” said Jamieson. “I was disappointed with the 100m the other day and this morning. I just went back and dressed myself down a bit. I just went it for it tonight.”
