Jamie Burrell determined to add another win to his collection

CRAIGROYSTON manager Jamie Burrell knows his side has a huge incentive to beat Vale of Leithen tomorrow.

The Central Taxis First Division leaders face third-placed Vale at St Marks Park, and Burrell admitted: "There is a massive incentive for us to win and go twelve points ahead of Vale. It is a huge game for both clubs."

Craigroyston beat bottom club Peebles 3-2 last Saturday in a game which Burrell described as "not a good performance".

He added: "Any away win is a good win and we returned with all three points. Peebles have improved immensely since we last played them and it was also a difficult surface to play on.

"However, I always felt that we would pull through and the result was the most important thing.

"We are still scrapping for every point to give the teams who have played less games than us a target to aim for.

"We cannot rely on other teams dropping points so tomorrow we have the chance to take three points off one of our challengers.

"I have to make sure that our players are completely focused on the game.

"To be honest, we have been looking forward to it since last October when they beat us 1-0 in a really exciting game. It was end-to-end stuff but we simply did not take our chances. We want to rectify that tomorrow.

"I will be asking the players to fight for each other and concentrate for the entire 90 minutes. I don't want the players to be too wound up – I want them to have cool heads but also fire in their bellies. The Vale have players like Aaron Somerville and Steven Clee, who can really hurt teams and they are possibly the best strike force in the First Division.

"However, we don't have any inferiority complex and we can compete with any team in our league."

Vale manager Rab Paget is also looking forward to the game, saying: "Craigroyston are a very good side who need to win this game more than us. If we were to win that would put a severe dent in their promotion hopes. A win for us would give us so much confidence as we strive for promotion."

Vale were two down against Gretna recently and Paget said: "We were deservedly getting beaten and were certainly not going to get anything out of the game when the floodlights failed. Contrary to some rumours, I did not pull out the plug! We returned to winning ways last Saturday with a 3- 1win against Easthouses Lily although our first half performance was very scrappy.

"I had to give the players a few choice words at half-time and I got a reaction because there were some periods in the second half which were very pleasing.

"If we beat Craigroyston I think that they would be out of the promotion equation. There is more pressure on Craigroyston than there is on us."

Craigroyston will be missing Stewart Martin and Michael Olsson while Vale have John Hall, Paul Thomson, Geri Rossi and Steve Dongo injured.

• THE game, at St Marks Park, kicks off at 2.30pm. Admission is 3 for adults and 1 for concessions.
