James eyes promotion to top with Bristol City

David James is targeting a return to the Barclays Premier League with Bristol City after feeling that remaining in top-flight football was impossible at this stage of his career.

The England goalkeeper, who celebrates his 40th birthday today, turned down offers from Premier League clubs and Scottish giants Celtic in favour of signing a one-year deal at Ashton Gate.

James was paraded before City fans at the club's pre-season friendly against Blackpool yesterday.
