It's in Gord's medals that we trust

Hibernian Historical Trust was celebrating today after acquiring Easter Road legend Gordon Smith's five Scottish League Championship medals.

The medals were handed over on the 70th anniversary of Smith signing for the Edinburgh club.

Three of them were won as Smith starred as part of Hibs' Famous Five side, the others clinched with Hearts and Dundee as the winger became the only player to win the title with three different non-Old Firm clubs.

It is understood the trust paid a considerable sum to secure not only the championship medals but Smith's 1947 Scottish Cup runners-up medal, his 1959 League Cup winner's medal while with Hearts, and seven of his nine Inter-League medals.

It is intended that all of Smith's medals will go on display at Easter Road at a later date.
