Inveraray maintain early promise to sink Kingussie

SHINTY: New Inveraray manager John Smilie has challenged his players to achieve their potential after they handed out a surprise defeat to champions Kingussie on Saturday.

Smilie took over from the club's most successful manager, Davie MacPherson, in the close season and saw his undefeated run continue against Kings 3-2. Despite narrowly avoiding relegation last term, Inveraray are now being tipped as outside title bets after a strong start. After watching his charges create the shock of the campaign so far, Smilie has urged them to prove how good they really are.

"I feel we have been underachieving as a team," he said. "There are a lot of good players here but we need to show it consistently. Hopefully we can press on and have a successful season."

Inveraray struck through Russell MacKinlay, Garry MacPherson and Euan McMurdo. Kingussie's goals came from Thomas Munro and Ronald Ross.

There were also Premier League wins for Fort William and Newtonmore, Kyles Athletic and Bute.
