Injury forces McNulty to call it a day with Reivers

EDINBURGH Reivers prop Ross McNulty has been forced to quit rugby because of a persistent neck problem.

The former Watsonians player has been freed from his Reivers contract and had started a new job as a contract manager in the building trade.

Reivers manager Nick Oswald said: "Ross was a very valuable squad member who always gave 100 per cent. It is always sad when a player has to leave the sport through injury and we wish him well for the future."

Oswald confirmed that former Scotland hooker Grant McKelvey had also left the team to devote his energies to his job as an SRU development officer in East Lothian.

Reivers will warm up for the new season with a week-long training stint at the University of Bath, followed by a mini-tournament involving Bath and Keynsham.

Oswald said: "It will be a very useful workout and we anticipate having a full squad available, including all our recent new signings."

Glasgow Caledonian Reds, meanwhile, are heading for Canada to compete in a four-team tournament during the first fortnight in August.

They will take on two British Columbia select teams in Vancouver, followed by a clash with the US Pacific Coast Grizzlies.
