Indycar: Dario secures podium place

BATHGATE'S Dario Franchitti scored his second podium finish of the year in the latest round of the IndyCar Championship in Kansas. The 35-year-old Scot finished immediately behind his Ganassi team-mate and race winner, Scott Dixon of New Zealand.

"That was the ideal result for the team and confirmed we're getting things moving the way we want," said Franchitti. "I would rather have won, but a strong 1-2 for Team Ganassi is perfect. We've now got the impetus which we'll carry into the next race, the Indy500 at the end of the month."

In the British Touring Car Championship, Fifer Gordon Shedden enjoyed his best results so far with two second places in the latest triple-header at Brands Hatch. In soaking wet conditions, the 30-year-old missed out on his first win in his Team Honda Civic by just 0.009secs.

He had finished the first race 5.783secs behind the Ford Focus of Tom Chilton.

In the second race, Chilton led home team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole with Shedden third. But, minutes after the chequered flag, Chilton was stripped of victory after his car failed a post-race check.

Shedden then finished ninth in the day's final race.
