Indoor hockey: Inverleith are two games from first trophy since 1975

Inverleith are the champions designate, all Stuart Neave has to do is to ensure his charges do not take stage fright today against Greaves Clydesdale and bottom side AMN Hillhead in the final instalment of the Subway national indoor hockey league, and the Edinburgh outfit will have their first silverware since the Scottish Cup in 1975.

Neave said: "Given our previous results and how we are playing, then we are obviously favourites to win both games but I'm sure both Clydesdale and Hillhead will be attempting to prove otherwise, especially Clydesdale, given they could have their highest-ever finish in the league."

Inverleith, whose cause will be helped by the return of Graham Moodie from Scotland duty against Spain, are six points ahead of Grove Menzieshill, but the Taysiders have a game in hand and a superior goal difference, so any slip by the Edinburgh side could prove fatal. Clydesdale are currently fourth.

In the women's league Milne Craig Western take on title challengers Grove Menzieshill and current champions VWS Dundee Wanderers and, although the Titwood outfit have a 100 per cent record and a four-point lead at the top, they have yet to lock horns with the powerful Tayside pair.

Western coach Neil Menzies believes two victories are achievable but said: "Both Grove and Wanderers are more consistent than us and more efficient than us in front of goal. However, we are in front in the league and it's the performance on the day that counts."
