In pictures: Edinburgh Rugby’s new stadium takes shape

The skeletons of new stands have emerged in the shadow of Murrayfield’s national stadium as the new 7,800-seater home for Edinburgh Rugby in the Pro14 begins to take a recognisable shape.
The construction team were able to return to the site last month and continue to follow the Scottish Government’s health and safety guidelines regarding Covid-19.

Providing electricity for the stadium means it needs its own substation and this has been installed by SP Energy Networks.
The South, West and East stands are now nearing completion as contractors Arena continue to make rapid progress.
Arena have now begun to install the roofing on each of three stands and, once that stage of the project is complete, the contractors will move to begin the construction of the Main North Stand, which will include team seating, coaches boxes, press seats and TV gantry.

At the moment, the club hosts crowds of around 5,000 in the 67,500-capacity main Murrayfield stadium, which has led to criticism of the lack of atmosphere.

The main arena will still be used for big matches including derbies against Glasgow.
Edinburgh managing director Douglas Struth is expected to share a further detailed update with fans soon.
