Schools squash: Tayside and Fife five taste success

Squash has a brand new venue for next year’s Commonwealth Games – and five Tayside and Fife school pupils were the first to taste success at the Scotstoun Sports Campus in Glasgow, winning the Scottish Junior Inter-Regional Team Tournament.

Elspeth Young (Kinross High School), Craig Valente-Wallace (Madras College) and David Beaumont (St Columba’s School) stepped up an age-group and joined Calum Johnston (Inverkeithing High School) and Rory Irwin (Dollar Academy) in scoring a great win over the home of the West of Scotland team.

Calum – fresh from his selection for the Scottish Under-19 Team – won with a battling 3-1 performance in a long and gruelling final session match against West’s Douglas MacMillan.

Craig successfully dispatched all of his opponents, losing only two games in the process. Elspeth again underlined her promise by defeating both male and female opponents.
