Ice Hockey: Safar, so good as Capitals re-sign defenceman Jan

DEFENCEMAN Jan Safar impressed so much in his 15-game stint with Edinburgh Capitals last season that he will return to the Murrayfield ice hockey team in September.

The Czech Republic blue liner is the club's second signing following the capture of Welsh-born netminder Nathan Craze from Belfast Giants. Safar, 23, scored four goals and assisted in nine other strikes but despite Capitals finishing bottom of the ten-strong table, he said: "I'm happy to be back. During my couple of months last season I made a few good friends and this season I am hoping to make even more. The city and the fans are great in Edinburgh and with the fresh new team I am excited to compete against the top teams in the UK."

Scott Neil, Capitals' general manager, said: "Jan did a great job at the end of last season and he will be a welcome addition."
