"His is a valuable player for us and we're pleased to have him back on board."
The first game is at the tight Whitley Bay ice rink near Newcastle tomorrow with the return on Sunday (6.00pm).
Neil said: "We've not had a pre-season game in which to get our legs going before.
"Normally, we bring the guys in a few days before the first game but this is something new and we hope it helps get them in shape. The games are exhibition warm-ups but games against Newcastle are always tough."
Capitals won't be at full-strength with three of their import brigade yet to check-in but new coach Gratton hopes to learn prior to the trip to Belfast Giants, the play-off champions, the following weekend when Capitals' league campaign faces-off.
