Ice Dancing: Blow as Kerrs fail to Cash in

MURRAYFIELD ice dancers John and Sinead Kerr suffered a major blow to their hopes of another medal after finishing fifth in yesterday's Original Dance at the European Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn.

That dropped last year's bronze medallists from fourth to fifth and gives the brother and sister a mountain to climb in tonight's final element, the Free Dance.

The seven-time British champions received their best-ever score in Tuesday's Compulsory Dance, but a slight wobble yesterday from Sinead limited them to 57.05 points for their dance inspired by the Johnny Cash song I've Been Everywhere.

The Kerrs' 93.81 total leaves them 2.65 off a podium position. They will be relying tonight on mistakes from others in the final competition before next month's Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
