Hydro deal sees Craig Lee off to Colombia

Craig Lee has wasted no time in taking advantage of Scottish golf's "Team Scottish Hydro" support package by travelling to Colombia to begin his European Challenge Tour campaign.

The 33-year-old from Stirling was one of five Scots chosen to receive financial aid during the new season as part of a concerted effort to get more home-grown players on to the main circuit.

Lee will compete in tomorrow's Abierto International in La Macarena after cruising to a 12-shot win in the Scottsdale Classic in Phoenix last week, and the former Tartan Tour No 1 is eager to continue that form.

"This is just the kind of event I may not have been able to play in due to the expense involved," said Lee, who will be joined by "Team Scottish Hydro" colleague Jamie McLeary. "But the support means I don't have to worry about the money and I can take this opportunity. The Scottsdale win was a nice boost and hopefully I can take that form with me and hit the ground running on the Challenge Tour."
