Hutchison Vale put the foot down to triumph in final

Hutchison Vale's under-16 team celebrated South East Region Division 1 League Cup Final glory after a 3-1 win over Spartans at New Dundas Park.

The final was played out in glorious conditions in sunny Bonnyrigg as Hutchie went three goals up after 40 minutes.

Vale's Taylor Hendrie was clearly in the mood, and found space on the right and raced clear unchallenged before cutting inside and placing a fine strike past Spartans goalkeeper Mark Horsburgh after ten minutes. Hendrie was the name again on the scoresheet soon after, but it was Taylor's namesake Christopher who found the net by smashing a 30-yard strike which deflected off a the back of a Spartans defender and looped high over Horsburgh to put Hutchie two goals to the good.

It was to be 3-0 just before half time, when Taylor Hendrie ran down the right wing before squaring to Ross Dray, who himself crossed to the back post for Chris Hendrie to tap in and place Hutchie firmly in the driving seat.

Spartans pulled a goal back shortly after half time when, after a goalmouth scramble inside the Hutchie box, the ball fell to the feet of Bruce Gorrie who fired home from five yards to make it 3-1.

Spartans manager Alastair Mitchell felt his side competed well in the second half but where overwhelmed by Hutchie's wing play in the first. "It was a good game," said Mitchell. "I thought we had the better of the second half, and Hutchie played really well in the first and killed us in the wide areas. All credit to the boys in the second half they got the ball down and played some good stuff."

Derek McCall, the Hutchie coach, commended his side's first half performance and praised the opposition for their second half comeback. He said: "We played really well in the first half and we fell off in the second a wee bit and let Spartans come back into it and to be fair they made a good game of it."
