Hume's boost

BARRY Hume's bid to return to the Asian Tour gathered pace in the second round of the qualifying school stage one at Majestic Creek in Thailand yesterday.

The former Scottish Amateur champion, who played on the Asian circuit in 2006 and 2007, fired a five-under 66 and surged up into 12th place with a four-under 138. Hume, 27, heads into the closing two rounds eight shots behind Spanish leader Gabriel Canizares, son of former Ryder Cup player Jose Maria, who hit a 66 for 130.

Musselburgh's Lee Harper, the Scottish Boys' champion in 1999, posted a 71 for 139 to share 15th but Comrie rookie Wallace Booth dropped down to 36th after a two-over 73 left him on 142. Aberdeen's Clarke Lutton missed the halfway cut on 155 after a 79.
