Houston quietly confident United can turn it round at Tannadice

Dundee United manager Peter Houston is confident his side can overturn their 1-0 deficit against Europa League opponents Slask Wroclaw and set up a tie against either Metalurg Skopje of Macedonia or Levski Sofia of Bulgaria in the third qualifying round.

United lost to Johan Voskamp's 75th-minute goal in Poland on Thursday night, but Houston felt his team contained the hosts well throughout the first leg of their second qualifying round tie. The Tannadice men had the best chances of the first half, both Johnny Russell and David Goodwillie missing one-on-one chances with the goalkeeper. But Houston believes his strikers can make amends at home - supplemented by the aerial prowess of Jon Daly.

"I have a lot of faith in this young group of players and I think we have a very good chance at Tannadice next week," he said. "I think we will score at home. With the crowd behind us, our own type of balls, I think we will find a way." That way could be by moving Daly up front after he deputised for the injured Garry Kenneth in central defence. "We were playing a centre-forward at centre-back as well and I thought Jon didn't look out of place," Houston said. "Indeed, every time we got a free-kick and put Jonny up, Jonny won a header.

"We have got to make sure next week that we have a better delivery and Jonny is capable of winning the headers, because they had two or three guys trying to mark him. We will need to be cautious and patient but I think we have good quality in Johnny Russell and David Goodwillie.

However, Slask have now seen what United can offer and veteran manager Orest Lenczyk showed he can turn a game after the crucial introduction of Voskamp. Lenczyk said: "Even though we watched Dundee United, they were still a bit of an unknown quantity for us. But this is only the first half of the tie and the final result of the match is always decided in the second leg."
