Last year’s winner has been talked of as the one horse that could finally win the double; with Synchronised being tipped as a favourite, this year’s Grand National might seem, ahem, a two-horse race, but Ballabriggs’s strong recent form bolsters his chances.
On His Own 14/1
A promising weight, good recent form - illustrated by a trailblazing win at Thyestes Chase - and a mercurial spirit mark out On His Own as a smart bet. The Willie Mullins-trained racehorse could be a real contender.

Hide AdChicago Grey certainly has pedigree; or, at least his owner does: Gordon Elliot won the National five years ago with Silver Birch. Odds on Elliot’s horse have contracted from 16-1 to 14-1; Chicago Grey’s widely-heralded stamina could see it pull ahead in the latter stages.
Shakalakaboomboom 14/1
Casual punters will queue up for the amusingly monikered Shakalakaboomboom on account of its name alone, but Nicky Henderson’s horse has had a strong season. Odds have seriously contracted on this one in the last few days.
Weird Al 50/1
A good each-way bet, Weird Al’s talent is not in doubt - what is less certain is which Weird Al will turn up: the horse that won the Charlie Hall Chase at the start of the season, or the one that disappointed at Cheltenham in March.
