Horse Racing: Pentominium can add to Johnston's tally of winners at Lingfield

PENTOMINIUM can give the red-hot Mark Johnston stable yet another winner in the Bet Multiples – Betdaq Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Lingfield.

The Middleham maestro has begun 2010 in unbelievable form and his strike-rate since the turn of the year is well over 30 per cent, an incredible statistic given he has had nearly 80 runners.

Lingfield has been a particularly happy-hunting ground for the Scot and this Dubai Destination colt looked a sure-fire winner on his debut at Newcastle in September.

He finished just over two lengths behind Arlequin in third and given the winner had showed up well behind Coordinated Cut and run in France recently that was a promising first run.

Godolphin had two runners in the Newcastle contest and both have since come out and won well. That race was over a mile and while he will be seen in a better light over further in time, staying at that trip looks logical after a decent break.

One yard who endured a pretty miserable 2010 was that of William Jarvis and it is quite a fact he has had six winners already this year, compared to 12 in all last term.

One horse who has already obliged for Jarvis this year is Head First and she is clearly improving fast.

Having won a low-grade handicap off 54 she was dropped into a claimer for her next run, where she finished a close second to a horse which was rated a stone superior at the weights.

Jarvis resisted the temptation to run her off her old mark and while she is now running off 68, this well-bred four-year-old still looks the one to be on in the Cyprium Bar At Marriott Lingfield Fillies' Handicap.

Pegasus Again ended 2009 in very good form and can strike in the Bet Asian Handicaps – Betdaq Handicap. A length behind Mr Willis in December he then beat Den's Gift at the end of the month, putting him up to a mark of 85.

That one reopposes on 2lb better terms but it might not be enough in this one-mile affair.

Donald McCain has not done much wrong this season but he has set Son of Flicka some very tough tasks indeed this season.

The six-year-old showed decent form over hurdles and was expected to make into a better chaser.

He has only completed three times over fences but will have been schooled intensively after unseating his rider at Taunton at the start of the month.

The Federation Of Small Businesses Championship Beginners' Chase back at the Somerset venue looks winnable.

If Southwell beats the weather, Alison Thorpe's Murphy could be worth a small interest in the Membership Of Southwell Golf Club Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Chase.

Only two lengths behind Riverside Theatre in a bumper, he went over to the Punchestown Festival as a youngster, such was the regard in which he is held.

He never fulfilled his promise over hurdles but fences could be the making of him – as long as we are prepared to forgive him tipping up on his debut over larger obstacles at Leicester.
