Horse Racing: Musselburgh aims to lay golden egg over Easter

Musselburgh is preparing for one of its busiest weekends of the year with back-to-back meetings over the Easter weekend and prize money of £115,000.

The reborn Musselburgh Gold Cup Race Day on Saturday has grabbed the attention of racegoers with more than 1,400 advance tickets sold. The ever-popular Easter Sunday Family Day is also looking like pulling in a big gate.

First run in 1817, the Musselburgh Gold Cup (then the Edinburgh Gold Cup) is the oldest to be run at Musselburgh. Racecourse general manager Bill Farnsworth said: "We have made a big effort to rebuild the reputation of the Musselburgh Gold Cup and it is now paying off."

Meanwhile, Dubai Prince has suffered a setback in training and will miss both the Qipco 2000 Guineas and the Investec Derby. One of the big hopes for Godolphin this season after winning both his starts at two for Dermot Weld, Dubai Prince has reportedly been diagnosed with a hairline fracture of his right ilial wing and will require time off.
