Horse racing: Hanagan could be In The Money at seaside

If Paul Hanagan ends up as Champion Jockey he will owe much of his success to Musselburgh where he has had an outstanding record this season.

So far this year Hanagan has booted home 22 winners on the seaside circuit for a 43 per cent strike rate and She's In The Money can give him another success in the EBF Fillies Handicap (4.00pm) there tomorrow.

The four-year-old was runner-up in this contest 12 months ago, having scored at Newcastle and Ayr in the previous weeks. Both those successes were over seven furlongs, but she coped with a mile with ease and went down fighting by a neck in a four-way photo finish.

Richard Fahey's filly did not run again until making a successful reappearance on this track in April when Hanagan was on board. The combination came through to lead approaching the final furlong before the filly swerved violently left and hung all the way across the track to the stands rail.

She has made the frame in four of her eight races since then and is gradually sliding back down the ratings. She was a good third at Newcastle over a mile on her latest appearance and is now 1lb lower than for her latest success.

Lady Bluesky was an impressive winner at the last meeting here and although she steps up in class, she can score again in the Royal Scots Club Handicap (5.10pm). The mare cost just 2,600 guineas and began her career by winning a National Hunt flat race at Wetherby early in 2008 and although she did not race again for almost a year, she was later placed in the championship bumper at Aintree.

This term she has shown promise on the level before opening her account by an easy three lengths over a mile and a half here recently. The handicapper has put her up 7lb, but the extra quarter of a mile tomorrow should play to her strengths.

Veteran sprinter Highland Warrior will have the easy underfoot conditions he relishes and can land another course victory in the concluding Royal Regiment of Scotland Handicap (5.40pm). The 11-year-old has registered four of his 13 career wins over this sharp five furlongs and has been placed three times here in recent weeks. He was noted going on strongly at the finish when runner-up at the last meeting.

King of the Moors is another who always runs well on the East Lothian track, having landed four of his eight career wins here.

The latest came at this fixture a year ago when he won the Scottish Racing Claiming Stakes (4.35pm) and a repeat is on the cards.

The gelding has struggled a little in handicaps since winning at Thirsk this spring, but ran well when second on a return to this grade here recently behind Fremen.

Joe Rowntree's Musselburgh Selections: 4.00 She's In The Money; 4.35 King of the Moors; 5.10 Lady Bluesky; 5.40 Highland Warrior.
