Horse Racing: Finjaan looks a fair bet to get Glorious Goodwood off to a flyer

Glorious Goodwood kicks off with a cracking seven-race card and Finjaan can land back-to-back runnings of the feature Betfair Cup.

The Royal Applause colt has not been seen since struggling in the Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup night but he arrived at last year's renewal on the back of a similar effort, having failed to stay a mile in the 2000 Guineas.

That absence proved no hindrance, however, as he stormed down the outside to beat the reopposing Balthazaar's Gift, adding another Glorious Goodwood triumph to his Molecomb Stakes success of 12 months earlier. Freshness would appear to be the key to him, this seven furlongs is his ideal trip and another win could tee him up for a return to Group One company later in the season.

The Group Three Betfair Gordon Stakes is one of the key St Leger trials and Simon De Montfort can force his way into the Doncaster equation. Meanwhile, the all-conquering Richard Hannon unsurprisingly holds the key to the Betfair Molecomb Stakes and has aimed Zebedee at this Group Three since his comfortable Listed victory at Sandown at the start of the month.

Luca Cumani's Start Right looked an upwardly mobile performer when scoring at Newmarket recently and looks set for top honours in the Tatler Summer Season Stakes. Cumani has won the ROA Summer Stakes three times since 2004 but this time his hat-trick seeking Kazbow may have to make do with minor honours behind Godolphin's Anhar.
