Horse Racing: Abzolutely is just fabulous

Abzolutely is a youngster with bags of pace and she looks a solid bet over the fast five-furlong trip at Musselburgh today

A half-sister to three winners, she cost just 3,500 guineas and has already paid her way with a victory and three placings from just six starts to date in her first season of racing.

Her trainer David O'Meara has made a tremendous start to his career, saddling 17 winners from just 90 runners since he was granted a licence earlier this summer. The ex-jump jockey netted his first success on the East Lothian track when Cheyenne Chant scored at the last meeting here ten days ago.

He has struck up a good partnership with jockey Silvester de Sousa who is enjoying his best season since coming to this country from South America and he will be on board Abzolutely in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Nursery (4.20pm)

Abzolutely led for a long way when fifth on her debut at Ripon and was then third at both Beverley and Thirsk before running better then the final placing of tenth suggests in good company at York's big meeting in August. She was then caught close home when a close third at Catterick before flying out of the stalls and making all the running to open her account at Ripon on her latest appearance. She gets in with a decent weight at the bottom end of the handicap today and certainly has the form to win. She was beaten three lengths by Major Muscari when third at Thirsk last month when her rider dropped his whip and she now is set to meet that winner on no less than 9lbs better terms.

Zefooha has been runner-up in four of her last five races and can finally get her head in front for the first time this term in the Weatherbys Bank Handicap (3.20pm).

The mare won twice in the second half of last summer and was runner-up over this course and distance just over twelve months ago. She was collared only in the last 100 yards when second at Redcar recently and this tight track should be suited to her front-running style.

Oddsmaker is another front runner who does well here. Four of his ten career wins have been gained on the seaside circuit and he can repeat last year's victory in the Scottish Racing Your Better Bet Handicap (5.20pm). Apprentrice Andrew Heffernan gets on really well with the veteran and kept the nine-year-old going really well to win here last autumn after losing his whip halfway up the home straight. His 3lb allowance can prove invaluable again.

Cold Quest bridged a four-year gap when scoring over a mile here last month as that was his first victory since he made a winning debut at Leicester back in 2006.

The gelding was well backed to follow up at the last meeting here ten days ago, but was slowly away and trailed the field before finishing strongly into fourth place. That was over seven furlongs and he tackles that trip again in the opening Tote Placepot Handicap (2.20pm). Provided he gets away on terms this time, he can get us off to a flying start.

Joe Rowntree's Musselburgh Selections: 2.20 Cold Quest; 3.20 Zefooha; 4.20 Abzolutely;5.20 Oddsmaker.
