Hometown girl misses out

NAIRN’S Kelsey MacDonald has missed out on a hometown appearance in the Curtis Cup after she had to be content with the fourth reserve spot, writes Martin Dempster.

“It is obviously disappointing for Kelsey and we were all rooting for her,” said Liz Fraser, the lady captain at MacDonald’s home club, Nairn Dunbar.

David Law knows exactly how MacDonald feels, the Aberdonian having missed out on last year’s Walker Cup at Royal Aberdeen when many felt he should have been in the GB&I team.

That event still attracted decent crowds and Fraser believes it will be the same at Nairn, adding: “It would be better if Kelsey had been in the team, but we’ll all be there supporting GB&I.”

With Stanford student Sally Watson, a member of the last two teams, having also been overlooked, it means that Bothwell Castle’s Pamela Pretswell will be flying the Saltire on her own in June.

“I felt I had done everything I possibly could, but it was still really pleasing when I heard the news,” said Pretswell of her selection. “It will be good to a big support behind us this time. I was really nervous two years ago but that experience should stand me in good stead.”
