Holders Camelon get off to a winning start

LEAGUE Cup holders Camelon enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win over near neighbours Sauchie last night.Joe Savage opened the Camelon account with further goals coming from Craig Young and Andy Dick.

It was a good start for the Mariners as they prepare to face much tougher opposition on Saturday when they play Bathgate.

Bathgate themselves were in the comfort Zone with a 6-0 drubbing of South Division side Harthill.

Steven Payne opened the scoring before pre-season signing Chris Jeffreys picked up the reins of the departed Jim Lister, scoring a hat-trick and leaving the supporters very happy.

Graeme McLaren added a fifth before an own goal completed the rout.

Beaten finalists Linlithgow Rose were in West Calder having scored 15 goals in the three friendly matches played already. However, West Calder were having none of it and held the Rose to a narrow 1-0 win.

The single goal came from a new trialist to add to Dario Quinn from Motherwell, who joined at the weekend.

Super League side Newtongrange had a 4-2 win at home to Premier League side Armadale. The Star raced to a three-goal lead at half time thanks to goals from Steve Thomson, Darren Gourlay and Liam McKenna. Armadale's Ryan Johnsone pulled a goal back before Gourlay struck again. Johnstone scored his second of the match for Armadale, who had Paul Wardlaw sent off.

Bonnyrigg and fierce rivals Penicuik fought out a 1-1 draw with Ryan McCallum scoring for Bonnyrigg and Ross Montgomery equalising for the visitors.

Bonnyrigg had David Dunn sent off and played the last 45 minutes with ten men.

Meanwhile, Arniston beat Musselburgh in a seven-goal thriller. Arniston's goals came from Jordan Cropley, Calum Martin, Blair Tolmie and Scott McNaughton. Musselburgh almost drew level thanks to goals from Iain Ramage, Mathu King and Kris Renton. Broxburn, playing their first competitive game in their new ground, were beaten 2-1 by Super League champions Bo'ness with Fraser Forrest and Chris Donnelly getting the Newtown Park side's goals and Chris Geddes grabbing a late consolation for Broxburn

Elsewhere, Whitburn were beaten 1-0 at home to Fauldhouse with Jamie Gallagher scoring in the first half. Livingston lost 2-1 at home to Stoneyburn while Spartans enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 win at Pumpherston. Dalkeith beat Edinburgh 3-2 at home with Tranent trouncing Haddington 5-0 to announce they are up for a fight this season.
