Hockey: We need to improve, Barr warns Grange

ROBERT Barr warned Grange they need to step up their form ahead of their trip to Western in hockey's Division One.

The injured Scottish international saw Grange scrape a 3-2 win over gutsy Hillhead.

The Edinburgh club travel to Glasgow on Saturday to face Division One title-chasing Western who cruised to a 4-1 win at Aberdeen.

Grange had to fight hard to subdue Hillhead who dominated the play early on despite fielding three under-18 players.

Callum Milne claimed two goals in his debut for Grange. Martin Johnstone netted the other. Hillhead's marksmen were Andrew Duke, who levelled at 1-1, and Andrew Hilton, who made it 2-2 with 14 minutes left.

Defender Barr said: "We took the three points but we forgot how to play hockey for 60 of the 70 minutes.

"We travel to Auchenhowie next week and we'll have to step up if we want to take anything from the game."

Elsewhere, Clydesdale thrashed Dundee-based Wanderers 10-1 while, in Division Two, Edinburgh won 4-1 at Uddingston, with Carlos Inero scoring twice.
