Hockey: Sutherland heads for Oz

SCOTT SUTHERLAND will become another of Scotland’s hockey exports when he jets to Australia later this month.

The CALA Edinburgh midfielder is taking the chance of a year-long contract with Footscray Hockey club, near Melbourne.

Former Civil Service and Scotland star Alan Stobbie, a former team-mate of Scott’s father, Chris Sutherland, has helped fix up the trip.

Scott, now 21, will play his last game for Edinburgh against Hillhead. He has delayed his departure in a bid to secure a victory which would almost certainly ensure CALA’s survival in Division One this season.

Victoria-based Footscray, who have 19 junior sides, nine women’s teams, seven men’s and six veteran sides with more than 500 playing members.

Sutherland said: “It’s a great opportunity and I aim to make the most of it.”
