Hockey: Scots made to sweat by Belgians

SCOTLAND wilted in the 36C heat as Belgium whipped the experimental senior men's hockey side 5-0.

The home side, who are ten places above the Scots in the international rankings, powered to a 3-0 first-half lead and continued to dominate in the second.

Eugene Connolly, Scotland`s manager, said: "We were always under pressure and gave the ball away too easily."

Scotland encouragingly drew 4-4 in the first match but Edinburgh-based Connolly said: "We were given a bit of a learning experience (in the second match] by a very focused Belgian outfit."

Meanwhile, Scotland under 21s lost to Spain, the European Champions, and Malaysia, in Spain, over the weekend.

Coach Derek Forsyth took the side to Terrassa as part of their build-up to the European Nations Trophy in Vienna later this month.

Inverleith's Callum Milne shocked Spain with a first-half strike after 15 minutes but they lost three soft second-half goals to go down 3-1.
