Hockey: Kelly the goal hero as Grange up the pace

MARTIN KELLY fired a treble as in-form Grange maintained their hockey Division One challenge with a 6-2 win at Wanderers.

The win moves the Edinburgh club into third spot with seven points, three behind Western and two adrift of second-placed Clydesdale, who did not play at the weekend. And the performance was particularly pleasing to player/coach Craig Harper who saw the visit to Tayside as a potential banana skin.

He said: "To go to Wanderers, who are a stuffy side, and win so convincingly is pleasing.

"So is the fact that we scored a lot of goals. We've been working on being clinical in the final third of the pitch and this time we converted some of the chances we had."

Robert Barr netted two goals from penalty corners and Callum Milne also scored.

Elsewhere, Edinburgh-born Ian Moodie, a former Inverleith player, and Scottish international Andrew Sewnauth both fired glory trebles as Western moved to the top of Division One by thrashing Edinburgh University 10-1.
