Hockey: Kelburne make title move with big win over Grange

KELBURNE knocked long time hockey pacesetters Grange out of first place in the Subway Eat Fresh Division One yesterday thanks to a 7-1 victory at Edinburgh University.

Kelburne now have a lead of two points over the Edinburgh club after 12 games.

Grange beat Edinburgh University 3-0 at Peffermill on Saturday, with two goals coming in the final two minutes following mistakes by the students.

Cammy Fraser, Gary Cameron and Colin McInver scored for Grange and Craig Harper, Grange's player/coach, said: "Our job is to keep winning and hope Kelburne slip-up."

Clydesdale stay in fourth place after edging fifth-placed Inverleith 2-1 at Titwood. It was 0-0 at half-time but the home side broke the deadlock ten minutes into the second session.

Defender Adam Mackenzie levelled two minutes later following a penalty corner but slackness in Inverleith's rearguard allowed the home side to net the game-winner ten minutes from time.

On Saturday, Inverleith goalkeeper Barnary Barber was the hero as the Edinburgh club edged Western 2-1 at Peffermill, making a series of quality stops as the Glasgow side powered back from a 2-0 deficit following a first-minute goal from Scottish international forward John Harris and a second from defender Adam Mackenzie from a penalty corner before the break. Ewen Miller scored for Western.

CALA Edinburgh continued their unbeaten run in Division Two when they thrashed Greenock 12-0 at Meggetland, their 15th straight win, but they were held 2-2 at Harris FP on Sunday.

Watsonians, who are third, drew 3-3 with Falkirk and look to be losing out in the promotion race after being beaten 3-1 at Granite City yesterday.

Second-bottom Waverley Inveresk Trinity beat Motherwell 3-2.
