Hockey: Inverleith stand in Grange's way as they hunt for title

TITLE-CHASING Grange go head-to-head tomorrow with their arch hockey rivals Inverleith in a crunch clash at Peffermill (2.45pm).

The long-time Division One pace-setters are now playing catch-up to new leaders Kelburne who have a two-point advantage.

Player/coach Craig Harper's men can't afford any slip-ups against an improving Inverleith combine who snatched a point in last Sunday's 2-2 draw at Peffermill against Grove Menzieshill, coming from 2-0 down.

Adam Mackenzie's last-gasp, set-piece double earned the Inverleith club a share of the spoils with the Dundee combine and the Fife-born Scottish international defender is focused on tomorrow. He said: "We had chances (against Grove Menzieshill) and didn't take them. They capitalised on that. We also had five second-half corners and failed to count with three. There are things we need to improve on.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh University, edged out 3-2 by Hillhead at home on Sunday, face two crucial games in their bid to beat the drop. They travel to Grove Menzieshill tomorrow and the second-bottom students then entertain Dundee Wanderers at Peffermill on Sunday (10.30am).

Elsewhere, promotion-hunting CALA Edinburgh tomorrow visit Carnegie while high-flying Watsonians are at lowly St Andrews University and struggling Waverley Inveresk Trinity visit Falkirk who are in the top five.
