Hockey: Inverleith hit Hillhead for six to make quarter-finals

INVERLEITH romped into the quarter-finals of the Arthur McKay Scottish Cup with a convincing 6-3 victory over WebEnergy Hillhead at Peffermill.

The result was sealed with a first-half penalty corner hat-trick by Richard Docherty, although Matt McIntyre did pull one back for Hillhead.

Inverleith now meet third division Granite City Wanderers in the next round.

Elsewhere, a second-half double from Sam Judge was the catalyst in Milne Craig Western's 3-1 victory over Dundee Wanderers in the women's Subway national league. Helen Walker opened the scoring for Western in the first-half while Nikki Martin notched a late consolation.

Aimee Clarke scored twice from cut-backs and Louise Carroll added a third from a penalty corner as Grove beat Giffnock 4-0; Linda Clement added the fourth in the second-half.

CALA Edinburgh saw off Porcelanosa Kelburne 4-1 to go fourth.

In the opening games of the relegation pool, Edinburgh University beat Hillhead 3-1 and Grange saw off Highland InveRoss 2-0.

In the men's competition the Edinburgh students started with a 5-1 crushing of Stepps.
