Hockey: Impressive champions warm up for life among the elite

DIVISION TWO hockey champions Edinburgh finished their season in style with a 5-2 victory over city rivals Watsonians.

Coach Neil Allan said: "We can't wait for Division One."

The Meggetland side have already started recruiting for their step-up to the elite of Scottish hockey, with Allan pleased to be able to give some of his up-and-coming squad players pitch time in the final league game of the season.

Paul Waugh, a 17-year-old promoted from the second team, Fergus McNab and Simon Waugh all impressed during the victory.

Allan said: "We played okay despite being several players down because of international call-ups and injury.

"However, we did what we had to do and the win means we have lost only one league game this season."

Elsewhere, Stepps warmed up for their promotion play-off with Edinburgh University with a 6-2 victory over bottom club Motherwell, while Waverley Inveresk Trinity edged Uddingston 6-5.
