Hockey: Grange captain pledges to keep up fight for title

Despite losing five points to Glynhill Kelburne in the last couple of weeks, Grange captain Rob Barr refuses to concede the title, and wants three points against VWS Dundee Wanderers in today's Subway national league encounter at Peffermill.

"We still believe we have an outside chance of winning the league, but we know we can't afford any further slip-ups in the remaining games," said Barr.

Grange still lead the table by four points from Kelburne, but the six-times champions have three games in hand. It is a double header weekend for the Paisley side, Greaves Clydesdale today and AMN Hillhead on Sunday, but it would be a major surprise if Kelburne did not emerge with the six points.

After last weekend's defeat of Edinburgh University, Inverleith will be looking to make further progress by taking another three points off bottom side Aberdeen Asset Management, while tomorrow they travel to Tayside to take on Grove Menzieshill in the belated quarter-final tie of the Arthur McKay Scottish Cup.

Edinburgh University's hold on first division status is slender and they are unlikely to get much change out of Western Wildcats today, but must strive for three points at home to Aberdeen.

In the second division CALA Edinburgh ought to win away to Falkirk GHG, while in the women's league leaders Grove Menzieshill should see off CALA Edinburgh and second-placed Giffnock are strong favourites to tame the Wildcats.
