Hockey: Double loss for Scots ahead of Paris

SCOTLAND may have lost their internationals against England 5-1 and 6-2 at Lillieshall over the weekend, but manager Eugene Connolly still believes it was good preparation for the second round of the World League in Paris next month.

Yesterday the Scots took an early lead through Alan Forsyth however, Mark Cleghorne fired a penalty corner high past Allan Dick after 20 minutes and England scored two more before the interval before extending their lead to 6-1 in the second half.

In the first game, the Scots were caught cold, losing two goals in the opening six minutes. They pulled one back early in the second half through Gordon McIntyre but lost three further goals before the end.

“We showed good potential and this was ideal preparation for the World League,” said , Scotland manager Connolly.
