Hockey: Dick available for Cup semi

OLYMPIAN hockey player Stephen Dick could make his comeback for Inverleith as they bid to reach the Scottish Cup Final by beating Western at Peffermill tomorrow, writes NIGEL DUNCAN.

The midfielder is recovering from surgery on a troublesome Achilles' tendon and has trained this week. Dick's inclusion – even if he plays only part of the game – would be a massive lift for the Edinburgh side who beat Western in a penalty shoot-out in the semi-final last season but lost the final to Capital rivals Grange.

Scottish internationalist Christopher Grassick is suffering from shin splint problems and won't play for Inverleith.

Grange are underdogs at Peffermill against Kelburne in the other semi-final. The Bellahouston side beat them 6-3 in Glasgow and won 2-1 at Peffermill on their way to the Division One title. Kelburne won all 14 of their league games and Grange player/coach Colin Clarke said: "We beat them last year in the semi-final but it will be tougher this year."

Clarke's biggest decision is who to select in goal.

David Woodcock has been their regular stopper this season as former No.1 Colin Johnstone, a Scottish internationalist, has been busy with his studies at university.

On Sunday, Strathclyde University II play Grange VI in the Reserve Plate Final (10.30am) while Glasgow University II square-up to Watsonians II in the District Plate Final (2.30pm) at Peffermill.
