Hockey: Clarke knows it could be double or bust for Grange

COLIN CLARKE, Grange’s hockey club’s playcaller, eyed next weekend’s double-header against Western and Inverleith and said: “It’s crunch time.”

The Edinburgh club go into the games with confidence after edging Grove Menzieshill 5-4 on Tayside on Saturday. Duncan Riddell netted for title-chasing Grange with just over two minutes left to end Grove Menzieshill’s three-game winning run.

Grove remain in pole position on goal difference from Grange with reigning champions
Kelburne in third spot.

Clarke said: “We’ve got things to work on this week, particularly defensively, but the Grove game was keenly contested and we deserved to win.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence now and we’ll have to refocus.”

Inverleith maintained their push for a top-two slot thanks to a 3-2 victory over an injury-hit Hillhead at Peffermill on Saturday.

The Glasgow side, with only 12 fit players, went behind to a first-half Aidan Docherty goal but levelled through a well-taken Graeme Campbell breakaway strike midway through the second half.

But goals from Fabian
Wolski, who netted from a
penalty corner, and Lewis
Gibson with eight minutes left, sealed the win.
