Hockey: CALA round off weekend by dumping Grange in Cup

HOT-STOP Colin Johnstone broke the hearts of his former Grange team-mates, and his brother, Martin, and admitted: "It was bitter sweet."

His heroics for new club CALA Edinburgh yesterday saw the Division Two minnows dump Grange from the Activcity Scottish Cup, winning 2-1 on penalties after drawing 4-4.

Grange, of Division One, came back to lead 4-3 from 3-1 down but CALA refused to give up and Ramsay Bell levelled from a penalty corner after the final whistle.

That set up a penalty shot finale and Robert Barr netted for Grange while former Grange goaltender, Colin Johnstone, saved from Callum Milne, his brother Martin and Cammy Fraser while Colin MacIver hit the crossbar.

Sutherland netted low to his left and Philip Rae kept his nerve with his first penalty stroke for three seasons to put the underdogs into the next round.

Johnstone, who moved clubs in the close season, said: "It is a great result for CALA. We work hard and we are looking to be in National One next year."

The win completed a great weekend for CALA who consolidated top spot in Division Two with a 4-1 win over third-placed Stepps.

Also in the Cup, Inverleith brushed third division Highland aside, 10-0.
