Hockey: CALA manager defiant despite agony of play-off defeat

GUTTED Neil Allan today vowed that CALA Edinburgh would regroup for another assault at returning to Scotland's hockey fast lane next season.

The Meggetland-based team, who recently won the Division Two championship, remain in the second tier following a 2-0 play-off defeat by Aberdeen at Peffermill on Saturday.

Allan, who has rebuilt the team into title winners, said: "We'll refocus and we'll be back."

Goals from Martin Hanus after a penalty corner in 17 minutes and a second from experienced Kenny Steele with ten minutes remaining, after Edinburgh failed to clear their D, ended the contest.

Defiant Allan said: "I felt we played the better hockey but we didn't take our chances again and we suffered from poor marking at the back."

It was a day of disappointment for Lothians clubs as Waverley Inveresk Trinity were relegated from Division Two by another Aberdeen-based club, Granite City Wanderers.

Trinity led thanks to a well-taken goal from Jeremy Moodley after 16 minutes but John Graham levelled from a penalty corner in 46 minutes and Simon Hudson slotted home, also from a penalty corner, in the dying seconds to secure promotion for the Division Three club.
