Hibs: Your Views on the new manager

'Definitely a step up in terms of stature and experience'

Frazer Henderson, Aberdeen: "I'm reasonably happy with this appointment - it was either that or some kind of off the wall Ivan Golac-type character that would put us out on a limb. He did a reasonable job at Nottingham Forest and I'm hoping he'll get off to a good start with three points at Pittodrie on Saturday. A lot of fans were calling for Steve Clarke but if his rumoured wage demands are correct then perhaps he didn't have good a grasp on how Scottish football works after all. I think Calderwood can come in and sort out some of the attitude in our dressing room at the moment."

Gibby Newton, Portobello: "I have got to say I'm disappointed but let us hope he proves me wrong. Calderwood was surely not the club's first choice and I would be interested to know how many candidates turned down the job because of the wages available for both manager and players."

Peter Brown, Restalrig: "I think Calderwood is a great signing - he has a proven track record of managing in England and he doesn't come with all the rigmarole of having been involved in the Scottish game in the past. He brought consistent promotion to the teams he managed in England and I'm looking forward to the derby with him in charge."

Andy Brown, Mountcastle: "Calderwood would not be my first choice but I can't say that I am upset with this appointment. I am not sure of his track record but we had this situation with Mowbray. Hopefully he can do something with the current group of players."

Simon Wallace, Edinburgh: "It is encouraging that we haven't gone for the next likely ex-player. His experience in England means he's not one of the usual Largs mafia either. Good luck Colin."

Diane Laird, Willowbrae: "Colin gets my full backing. I like his pedigree and hope he is in for the long haul. He comes with no 'Hibs' baggage and in my book that will stand him in good stead for when the going gets tough. And it will. We're Hibs - it comes with the territory. Well done Petrie!"

Paul Haldane, Clermiston: "Total lack of ambition shown again by a board who are pillaging the club of its finances. I will continue to stay clear of the club until this board is removed and some ambition is shown."

David MacKinnon, Edinburgh: "A shrewd and solid appointment by Rod Petrie, maybe not the champagne manager we were looking for but definitely a step up in terms of stature and experience."

Bill Howie, Musselburgh: "I think that Hibs have made a very good choice in appointing Colin Calderwood. We needed a tried and tested, experienced manager this time around and not a rookie. I think many fans were keen on Steve Clarke taking the job but for me that would have been a very big gamble as he has never managed a club in his own right. We should all get behind our new manager."

Kevin McCabe, Liberton: "The appointment of Calderwood will be viewed as one of disappointment from the majority of Hibs supporters. Whilst his track record in securing two promotions with Northampton and Nottingham Forest may seem relatively successful on paper it should be understood he had the largest playing budget in both divisions on both occasions. His nickname of "Calamity Colin" at Forest is hopefully one he can shed at Easter Road with the knowledge he's since gained as number two at Newcastle and also his inclusion as a coach within the Scotland set up. Hopefully his reputation as a hard task master will allow many of the squad to understand how lucky they are to be at Easter Road.!
