Hibs' Thornhill to miss final six games after knee injury

Hibs midfielder Matt Thornhill will miss the final six games of the season after sustaining knee ligament damage in last weekend's victory at Aberdeen.

Thornhill received what was initially thought to be just a simple knock to his knee in the closing stages of the clash at Pittodrie, but remained on the pitch.

But now Hibs manager Colin Calderwood has confirmed the problem is worse that expected and that his January signing from Nottingham Forest will miss the remainder of the campaign.

"He's been in good form but will be out and won't play again this season – he strained his medial ligament," said Calderwood of the 22-year-old central midfielder.

Ahead of Sunday's home meeting with Hamilton, Calderwood was pleased to reveal that apart from long-term injuries, he has an otherwise fully-fit squad to pick from, saying: "Everyone else is great – good to go."

Meanwhile, sidelined goal keeper Graham Stack is still waiting to find out if he has a future under Calderwood.

The 29-year-old impressed on first team-duty before badly injuring his shoulder early in March against Hamilton and has not been fit to play since.

He said: "I'm in the dark with regards to what is happening with a new contract. I would love to stay here. Everyone knows how happy I am here and settled here and, if I was to move on, the chances are I would have to uproot the family again."

"Now that it's been confirmed that we can't make the top six, hopefully, the club will start talks with the players that have still to be told. I've not spoken to anyone upstairs to find out if there is going to be any offer or anything like that. I'm keen to stay, but I'm just waiting to hear."

Valdas Trakys is one player who won't remain with Hibs after being told by Calderwood he can find a new club. Lithuanian striker Trakys, 32, joins John Rankin, Kevin McBride and Colin Nish in the hunt for a contract elsewhere.

Trakys's agent, Alex McLaughlin, said: "Valdas has enjoyed his time at Hibs but from a footballing point of view things haven't really worked out the way we would have hoped. "
