Hibs girls lose final but still take top honours

TWO Hibernian FC under-16 Girls' players won top awards despite losing out to West Ham Ladies in the final of the Tesco Cup UK at the Reebok Stadium, in Bolton.

Former England international and Liverpool legend John Barnes attended the event and chose Caroline Weir as midfielder of the tournament and teammate Siobhan Hunter as forward of the tournament.

The team, who put in a great performance to reach the final game, narrowly missed out on winning the UK title to West Ham Ladies who won 2-1 after extra time.

The Hibernian girls demonstrated excellent teamwork in the semi-final, with a convincing 3-1 win over Sion Swifts from Northern Ireland.

In the final, Hibs took the lead but West Ham responded with an equaliser just minutes before the final whistle.

In extra time, West Ham striker Danielle Robertson scored her second goal of the game to win the UK title for the London team.
