Hibs: Final Answer

Would you welcome any expansion of the SPL or the introduction of play-offs?

Derrick Smith, Gracemount: "It's a good idea – there will be fewer games, we will play each other twice which removes tedium and this will help the national team and help clubs perform better in Europe, where the Scottish coefficient has dropped alarmingly low. Hibs must swallow the loss of a couple of games against the Old Firm and the Jambos but they never sell out anyway. Hopefully, this can be fast tracked through for next season as change is urgently required for the good of the game."

John Harrison, Muirhouse: "If and when this comes about, it will be at the request of the Old Firm, who the SPL panders to. I can't see it happening, though, as there will be two fewer Old Firm games each season and for them to give up at least a 1m per game won't happen any time soon."

Craig Rowan, Edinburgh: "I am definitely in favour of reconstruction of the league. The split is the joke of British football and should be scrapped as soon as possible. A 16 or-18 team league playing each other twice has to be the way forward. It would also allow for a regular home then away fixture list which, combined with fewer games, might help our pitches last a bit better too. I'm not convinced about play-offs, I think two or three teams up and down per season is just fine. The reason it works so well in England is the prize at the end. Promotion to the SPL is good but it's not the Premiership."

Connor Pollock, Larbert: "It's a good idea but, with the Old Firm constantly money hungry, I foresee that the SPL will have to succumb and allow them to have their own say in revenue raised by media such as TV and radio where they will want to sell their own rights. However, a 16-team league with two guaranteed relegation spots and a play-off for the third would be good.

John Burnett, Cameron Toll: "I think this one could be a goer, it would keep the league really competitive for those battling at the foot of the table and any suggestion that rids us of the totally unfair top six-bottom six split is a step forward. The SPL must change as the fans are starting to vote with the feet with attendances are falling across the country. I think they will start to fall at Hibs as well as there will be fewer away fans attending games unless there is change – and quickly."
