Hibs: Final Answer

We asked the fans to pick their top central defensive pairing ..

Colin Scott, Gilmerton: "My first choice would be Sol Bamba and Paul Hanlon. Chris Hogg just hasn't done enough for me to justify his place week after week – sorry Chris. He was dropped earlier on in the season but I feel he needs another spell on the bench. I would not have Ian Murray in the centre back area either as we need him as a left back. He brings plenty of energy and enhances the left side of the team."

Mark McNaughton, Leith: "We were strong in this position until Bamba went to the African Cup of Nations. Since he's come back, I feel that John Hughes is picking his team around Sol, which is wrong. Hogg has been missing the pre-ANC Bamba as much as anyone because we have lost more goals since January than we lost up until then. So if Bamba can regain his form then the original Hogg and Bamba partnership should be the first choice. Paul Hanlon will get a permanent place next season as he has shown he is good enough. He will just have to be a little bit more patient."

Ross Barrett, Pilrig: "I think we are best with Bamba and Hogg but I would give the captaincy to Murray next year. I want a captain who is naturally aggressive and always motivating his team mates."

John Dunsmuir, Dudley: "We haven't really had a decent defence for years. If it's not the centre backs, it's the full-backs or the keeper. Hopefully Yogi can identify a right back and another centre back as both Hogg and Bamba are lacking something. Hanlon is a star in the making but he needs a very experienced centre back to pay alongside him. St Johnston got lucky with their signing of Michael Duberry. Imagine how good he would have been for Hanlon to play alongside. Yogi should be looking at the market of experienced pros from the highest level and trying to bring them into the team."

Gav Haston, Loanhead: "Hanlon and Hogg worked well last weekend when Bamba went off. I'm just glad we have cover, as throughout a season we need at least three, if not four, centre backs. If all the players are fit and available for selection, then it's Bamba and Hogg to start."
