Hibs could fight Adams sending off

Hibs will today consider contesting the sending off which could see assistant manager Derek Adams banned from the dug-out for ten matches.

Adams was sent to the stand at Fir Park by referee Alan Muir just five minutes into the second half of Hibs' 2-0 defeat by Motherwell, after being summoned to the touchline by fourth official Kevin Clancy.

But afterwards Easter Road boss Colin Calderwood disclosed he'd been bemused by the decision which, he insisted, was for "foul and abusive language" to the referee, revealing his No.?2 simply doesn't swear.

Calderwood made a point of speaking to Muir to clarify exactly why Adams had been banished from the technical area, claiming: "Derek was sent to the stand for foul and abusive language to the referee.

"He does not swear. I think that is important, very important."

Calderwood admitted there had been a comment made about "a player in the opposition team," but insisted the explanation given didn't square with events claiming: "There's two quirks there."

Adams is no stranger to controversy having arrived at Easter Road as he completed an earlier ban and, at the moment, he is appealing a four-game suspension imposed following Ross County's Co-operative Insurance Cup match against Dundee United last September.

Under the SFA's disciplinary code's totting-up procedure Adams could face a six-game ban for this latest run-in with officialdom should his current appeal fail and Muir's decision be upheld.

Meantime, Calderwood has revealed he hopes to bring in at least one further new face before the transfer deadline in a week's time, the final details being completed to bring Nottingham Forest midfielder Matt Thornhill to Edinburgh, as revealed by the Evening News on Friday.

Thornhill, who is suffering from a bruised foot sustained just prior to Christmas, has undergone a medical with Hibs and, according to Calderwood, it's just a matter of "dotting the i's and crossing the t's" on his 30-month deal.

Predicting a "flurry of activity" throughout football ahead of the window closing next Monday night, Calderwood said: "We hope to take one more, then hope to take one more after that but it is hard to say because nothing is ever done until everything is completed."
